If Its Highland Dress For Your Wedding - Call Deeside Kilts On Banchory 822177
Here at Deeside Kilts, our aim is to fit each garment to as high a standard as possible, we feel that this is best achieved with an in-store appointment, and measurements taken from our highly knowledgable and exerienced memebers of staff. Our hire garments are allocated on a rolling basis so we can't always gaurentee the opportunity to try on the required outfit during the initial measurement appointment. That said, upon collection of the outfit, we offer a personal fitting serivce where the outfit can be tried on in-store for your satisfaction (this is usually a few days prior the the the function and comes at a small extra cost). We usually advise this option to those who are not avid kilt wearers, and we are happy to educate those who do not know how to wear the garments correctly. Alternatively, the outfit can be tried on at home and if there are any prefered changes we will always do our best to accommodate. Our staff members are determined to achieve a well fitted outfit and this makes us stand out from the crowd - Here at Deeside Kilts, we care!!
Prearranged Measuring and Fitting Appointments
Although we always suggest that you visit our shop to be correctly sized for your hire kilt outfit by our experienced staff, we understand that you may not have time to attend a fitting appointment and want to simply take your own measurements.
By following a few basic instructions, self measurement of your required kilt size can be quite simple. However, the following is a couple of tips that should be followed to ensure the measurements are taken accurately.
DO NOT attempt to do this alone. It is essential that you get someone else to do assist in taking your measurements whilst you are in a standing position, as it is quite impossible to do this yourself with any degree of accuracy.
DO USE a proper tailor’s measuring tape - a 6" ruler or piece of string wont work !
Of course, if you need any advice or assistance don't hesitate to contact one of our sales team at the shop on 01330 822177, we would rather you get the sizes correct first time to keep things stress free for all.
Rule 1 - Use a Tailors Tape Measure
WAIST (see d on diagram) - We understand that most guys wear there trews around their hips nowadays but this is not traditionally the case with the Kilt. It is important to have the correct “starting point” which is approx 2 inches above the hip bone, usually at the navel. Measure around the stomach fairly tight to provide the size of your waist measurement. (Please note, the Kilt is traditionally worn higher up on the body so the waist measurement is not necessarily the same as you normal trouser measurement.)
SEAT (see e on diagram) - Next, take the measurement of the widest area across the bottom and hips, but do not put the tape measure too tight as this should be a fairly loose fit measurement.
LENGTH (see f on diagram) - Finally, kneel on the floor and whilst keeping your back upright, look straight ahead. The final measurement is taken form the Naval to the floor (middle of the knee). This will give you the correct finished length or drop. (Please note, there is always the temptation to lean forward to view this measurement but this will result in an inaccurate length measurement - and is one reason why you need someone to help !
** It should be noted that where self measuring has been adopted we cannot be held responsible for incorrectly sized outfits. We would therefore suggest that you arrange to visit our shop and try on your outfit a couple of days before you take it away to ensure that you are completely satisfied with the fitting. Depending on your specific choice of outfit we cannot always organise an immediate replacement but will always assist as far as possible.

CHEST - Without holding your breath, have someone take the tape measure around your torso, under the arm pits with a snug but slightly loose fit. This should be completed with only a shirt on and arms flat by the side.
JACKET LENGTH - measuring from your collar of the neck to the waist.
HEIGHT - It is also important to detail your full height (from head to toe) so the jacket length can be determined.
WAIST - Take the measurement of the waist again just below the bottom of the rib cage and around the natural waist
ARM - Take the measurement from the edge of the shoulder to the cuff to determine arm length.
COLLAR SIZE - take Collar size around the neck for shirt requirement.
